The 2nd Annual 4th of July Hot Dog Run will be run as a part of the festivities to celebrate the Nathan’s annual 4th of July Hot Dog Eating competition. Runners will begin at the HDB (hot dog and bun) station at the base of the driveway of the Gluckstein residence. At the start of the timer, runners will consume 1 HDB then run the quarter mile route, returning to the HDB station. Runners will repeat the process 3 additional times making the total distance 1 mile and consuming a total of 4 HDBs. All HDBs must be swallowed prior to leaving the HDB station. Runners are required to shout "HOT DOG" and receive a judge's approval prior to exiting the HDB station to ensure the HDB has been swallowed. Water or flavored... beverages of the runners' choosing may be used to dip HDBs to ease consumption (BYOB). Beverages may also be used for hydration by the runners. If, at any point during the contest, a runner regurgitates any food, he or she will be disqualified. Vomiting, also known as a "reversal", or, as ESPN and the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest call it, a "reversal of fortune", includes obvious signs of vomiting as well as any small amounts of food that may fall from the mouth deemed by judges to have come from the stomach. Small amounts of food already in the mouth prior to swallowing are excluded from this rule.
In an effort to improve this event over last year and increase participation, there will also be a team relay option this year. Teams of 2 runners may take turns eating and running to meet the total of 4 HDBs and 1 mile. Other than distance and number of HDBs consumed per runner, all of the individual runner rules apply to the relay team runners.
Registration is open until July 1st. Register by signing up below. We must ensure an ample supply of hot dogs for this EPIC event!
